The concept of mother entrepreneurs ( Mompreneurs ) is emerging along with the entrepreneurship itself, Also mothers in India are gaining ground in every possible field and most of these women have gained the Experiences in the corporate world and feels the need to establish their own enterprise. So here we’re sharing the inspiring story of Indian Mompreneurs who’re running successful business along with their caring children :
1) MEENA BINDRA – BIBA APPARELS:- Way back in 1988, being a Navy officer’s wife she started a small tailoring outfit for women in mumbai with a initial bank loan of Rs 8000. She was a homemaker till her elder son went to boarding school and her younger son was just 7. She saw the opportunity of North Indian ethnic wear in the market and with both her son’s away in school during the day, she took the plunge and started BIBA. At present, with an annual turnover of ₹650 crore, BIBA has emerged as a market leader in women’s ethnic wear. Even today, Bindra still involves herself in designing various new lines that company launches every year.
2) SUCHI MUKHERJEE – LIMEROAD:- Suchi Mukherjee – founder of limeroad.com, was scaled up in technology businesses in UK having held top jobs in ebay, Skype and gumtree. After the birth of her son Aadit, when she was on maternity leave. Flipping the pages of a magazine, she saw a piece of jewelry she wanted to touch and buy, she realized that there is no such platform where a person can access vast range of products and get them just by a touch of his fingers, this was the inception of an idea that came to her and later turned into LimeRoad.
3) GARIMA SATIJA – POSHVINE When she quit her HR job, to set up a concierge services from fine dining to adventure sports in 2011. From her own need to discover unique food experience, she started by aggregating the premium restaurants and chefs willing to create unique activities. However, managing a balance between work and family was tough for her in the starting days, the rules she set for herself some rules for her work to spend some quality time with her family apart from her startup. At present, “PoshVine has been extended to six other countries besides India which provides people to create experiential packages directly on the site.
4) REBEKKAH KUMAR – FOURSEVEN While working in a high profile corporate, she chose to quit having worked at Microsoft for 9 years as she wanted to spend her most time with her children. She moved to India with her family in 2006. She was passionate about jewelry since her childhood and also had a collection from around the world. Having lived in India for about 8 years, she saw a definite market opportunity for a line of contemporary jewelry for global Indians and launched the online jewelry store – ‘fourseven.in‘ in 2014. “My husband, children and family have all been very supportive. They understand when I have to work long hours or when I need to travel,” she says. Also she makes sure that she maintains a healthy work-life balance, having been a ‘hands on’ mom for years, she completely understands the balancing act.
